Jay Gress, Inc. was started in 1933 in Swedesburg, Montgomery County, Pa. by Jay Gress Sr. and the son of a Chambersburg, Pa. dentist. Mr. Gress, assisted by his wife Ella, began his business career as a Commission Agent for Sinclair Oil and Refining Company.
He was a distributor for Richfield Petroleum (1936 to 1939), Esso (1938 to 1942) and Atlantic Refining (1943 to 1946). Since 1947, Jay Gress Inc. has been a distributor for the CITGO Petroleum Corporation, formerly known as Cities Service Oil Co.
These companies were represented out of various office locations, including 1314 W. Main Street and 101 Jacoby Street in Norristown; South Henderson Road in King of Prussia, and our current location of 1225 W. Ridge Pike, Conshohocken, Pa. The current office, warehouse and bulk plant was first occupied in 1951.
Mr. Gress' untimely death occurred in 1956 when he was 54 years old. Edwin Hein and Ella Gress subsequently ran the company. Edwin Hein had been actively involved in the company since 1934 as a driver, salesman and dispatcher. Jay Gress II entered the business in 1960, bringing computerization and many other acquisitions through the 70s and 80s and expanding the company's basic business.
Jay Gress, Inc. has distributor contracts in the Lubricant Division with with Pennzoil, Quaker State, Shell, Citgo, Graco Equipment and Clean Burn Heaters. In our Light Oils Division, we distribute for CITGO, Mobil, Exxon, Tosco, Gulf, Sun, Coastal and Hess. For the HVAC Service Installation Department, we install the York & Carrier Heater/Air conditioners, Columbia boilers, Aprilaire humidifiers, Honeywell controls and many other comfort/energy products that cover our service and product offerings to our customers.
Jay Gress, Inc. was incorporated in 1946 and strives to be a quality leader in every department. We are dedicated to being a long-term supplier of quality petroleum products and heating and air conditioning services, and are committed to the social, environmental, and economic needs of our customers and employees.
